TM CPC practical guide: This article is written to help candidates understand the subject in plain English and connect exam knowledge with the real responsibilities of a Transport Manager.
Start with the question, not your assumptions
Read the requirement carefully before writing. Identify the command words, the number of points being sought and the part of the scenario that matters.
Use the scenario
Case-study answers should be applied to the business or situation described. Generic knowledge is useful, but marks are more likely to come from showing how that knowledge resolves the actual problem in front of you.
Show your working
For calculations, set out the method clearly and keep units consistent. Even when your final number is wrong, clear working can help you identify where the error occurred during review.
Manage your time
Do not spend so long perfecting one answer that you leave later questions untouched. Practise under timed conditions before the real assessment so that your pacing becomes familiar.
Build exam technique during the course
Exam technique should not be left until the final day. Use practice questions throughout your study so that applying knowledge becomes part of learning the syllabus.
